The DK25 dongle
was first used by ScotWeave with the original MS-DOS version of
the program in the late 1980's. The DK25 continued to be used with
the Windows version of ScotWeave but was gradually replaced by the
DK2 dongle.
The DK25 dongle
is a serial port dongle. It must connect to a serial communications
port (usually COM1 or COM2). The DK25 used a 25-pin D-type
connector which meant that a 9-25 pin adaptor was generally
supplied to allow it to be connected to 9-pin serial ports.
Known
Problems
The DK25 is not compatible with Windows® 2000 or Windows®
XP.
The DK25 is
not compatible with some computer serial ports under Windows®
98 or Millennium Edition. There is no way of knowing which computers
are affected.
If you move
ScotWeave to a new computer then you may find that a DK25 which
worked okay on the original pc will suddenly return "Dongle
not found" error messages. If this happens check the following
1. Check the
DK25 is correctly connected to a working serial port (COM1
or COM2)
2. Check the DK25 ribbon cables for damage.
3. If a 9-25 pin adaptor is used then check that this is
not damaged.
4. Ensure that the DK25 driver software is installed -
if it is not then install
the driver.
If the DK25
will still not work after these checks then it must be replaced
with a DK2 dongle and new ScotWeave software installed. If you
have a ScotWeave software
maintenance contract then the dongle will be replace
free of charge.
If you do not
have a maintenance contract then you will need purchase a contract
(since new software must be supplied to make the DK2 operate). Please
contact ScotWeave
for details.
