| Some
version of Windows (notably Windows 95 and 98) may occasionally exhibit
what is known as a "blue screen error". This
occurs when the entire screen goes blue and a message in white reports
some problem (usually a "fatal exception" or some other
cryptic message).
Blue screen
errors usually occur during or after a system crash
when a program, or Windows itself, has corrupted memory and effectively
"confused" the computer. Although it may be possible to
continue after a blue screen error it is always best to restart
the computer as soon as possible.
Blue screen
errors indicate that memory has become corrupted so that the performance
after such an error will be affected. Most often, one blue screen
error will give rise to another and it may in fact be impossible
to continue until the computer is restarted.
Restarting the
computer usually resolves the immediate problem and blue screen
error, although serious in that they stop the computer working,
do not usually cause any lasting problems.
