Printer Colour Matching Problems
CADCAM Software for All Woven Textiles

Nature of Problem :
Colours printed on the printer differ from those selected from the ScotWeave colour library pages.

Solution :
There are several issues which must be checked in order to identify the cause of the problem. These should be checked in the following order -

1. First check that the printer paper on which the colour library was printed is the same as that used for all other printouts. The paper has a great effect on the printer colours therefore you MUST use the same paper for all printouts otherwise the colours will be different.

2. Next check that the Windows printer driver settings are the same for the colour library and other prints. Some Windows printer drivers allow you to select print modes (e.g. faster print, high-quality print, economy print) which will have an effect on the colours printer. Ensure that the printer driver settings are the same for all prints to ensure consistent colour. This is the most common cause.

3. Next check for any "Windows colour management" modes in the Windows printer driver. These colour management modes (sometimes called "Color Profiles") can have an effect on the colours printed if they are used. You should either set these options OFF or ensure that you use the same color profile for all printing. Click here for more information.

4. Now start the ScotWeave Yarn Designer program. Open a yarn file and select one of the yarn colours that is causing the problem. Check that the PCR values shown on the screen above the colour circle are the correct ones that you selected from the library page. If these are not correct enter new values and Save the yarn. Ensure that you do not confuse the "Column" number with the "Row" number for PCR values.

5. With the yarn still on the screen (and saved if you made any changes) use the File - Print - Current Yarn menu option to print the yarn. Compare the yarn printout with the library page PCR colour chip.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for any other "problem" yarn shades.

7. Now start the ScotWeave Dobby or Jacquard Designer program. Create a very simple design with large blocks of the yarns used at step 4 above in both the warp and weft. Save and print this design. If any error messages appear regarding PCR values then read these carefully as they will indicate the nature of any problem. Check the design printout against the printouts 5 and the library page printout.

8. Note that the yarn Texture value will affect the colours printed in a design. A high texture value adds more "shading" to the yarn which generally darkens the colours printed. Try reducing the texture value (use Yarn - Diameters/Texture to change the texture value) and print again.
