Nature of
Problem :
Running Windows NT4 workstation or Windows 2000, the system reports
"disk full" errors during certain operations - in particular,
this may happen when printing.
Solution
:
Many Windows NT4/2000 systems are supplied with a "partitioned"
hard disk drive in which the C-drive is relatively small (typically
less than 2 GBytes) but other drives (e.g. drive D:) are much larger.
Even if ScotWeave is setup to save files to the larger drive you
may experience problems when the C-drive fills up because Windows
will use this drive as a working area (e.g. for memory "swap
files" and for print spooling).
The solution
is to setup Windows to use the larger drive for swap files and print
spooling. This is done as follows (assuming that the D-drive has
significantly more free space than the C-drive)
Changing
the Windows Swap file location and size -
Open the Windows
Control Panel
Select the System icon
For Windows
NT4
Select Virtual Memory
For Windows
2000
Select
Performance
Select Change under
Virtual Memory
Highlight
the C-drive
Set
the Initial Size and Maximum
Size values to 0
Highlight the D-drive
Set the Initial Size and Maximum
Size values to, for example, 500 Mbytes
Click the Set button then
OK
You will have
to restart the computer for this change to take effect.
Changing
the Windows Print Spooler location -
First you must
decide what drive you wish to use for print spooling and then you
must create a folder on that drive to be used for this purpose.
For example, to use drive D: for print spooling you could
create a folder called D:\PrintSpooler then use the following
steps
Open the Windows
Control Panel
Select the Printers icon
Select File then Server
Properties
Click on Advanced
Change
the Spool folder to D:\PrintSpooler
You will have
to restart the computer for this change to take effect.
